01. Eat Nutrient Rich Diet

Although the brain makes up only 2 percent of our body weight, it uses 20 to 30 percent more nutrients and 20 percent more oxygen than any other human organ. The visual system is an energy-demanding system of the brain, because the retina is one of the body’s highest metabolic needs – it consumes about 25 percent of the nutrition and 35 percent of the oxygen the brain takes in.

We need to make sure our eyes get the nutrients they need, because more than 80 percent of what we learn about the world is through our eyes. Our vision is a complex function that extends from the eyes in our brain to the optic nerve and occipital lobe (visual processing center). The optic nerve is the only place where the brain meets the outside world.

Healthful nutrient-rich foods, such as fruits, vegetables, legumes, and fish, plays a key role in the prevention of a variety of chronic diseases including eye diseases. Also eating a rainbow variety of fresh food is vital for optimal brain and eye health. The red, orange, yellow, green, blue, and purple variation of fruits and vegetables offer vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and phytochemicals – all of which have enormous healing powers.   • Vitamin A (or beta-carotene, A’s precursor): citrus fruits, melons, carrot, spinach, broccoli, and animal liver or cod liver oil.
  • Vitamins C: citrus fruits, berries, melons, carrot, peppers, and leafy green vegetables.
  • Vitamin E: beets, broccoli, leafy greens, whole grains, sunflower seeds, and almonds.
  • Lycopene: fruits and vegetables with red and pink pigments, such as tomato, watermelon, red orange, pink grapefruit, apricot, rosehip, and guava.

02. Get Enough Sleep

Healthy sleep is essential for our body. During sleep, different types of hormones are secreted and sleep is very important for cell renewal, fatigue reduction and energy regeneration. Sleep is very important not only for our physical health but also for our mental well-being.

A person should sleep at least 6 hours a day. But remember that is the minimum time. For a healthy sleep, you should sleep for about 8 to 10 hours. But in our busy lifestyle, we have less chance to sleep that much.

However, prolonged sleep deprivation is not good for your overall health. It can also make your eyes tired. Also, your eyesight may decrease over time. So try to get a good healthy sleep whenever possible.

03. Eye Exercises

Palming for total relaxation. Rub vigorously until your palms are warm. Close your eyes and place your palms gently on your eyelids, breathing slowly and deeply into your belly. Allow the warmth of the palms to transfer to the eyes. You may feel the eye muscles relax as your eyes get relief from the darkness. Continue until the heat of the hands is completely absorbed by the eyes. Repeat two or three times or for a total five minutes. It will improve eyesight, try out.

04. Rule of 20-20-20

Both the AOA (American Optometric Association) and the AAO (American Academy of Ophthalmology) recommend the rule of 20-20-20 as a way to reduce eye strain. The rule says that for every 20 minutes
spent in near work (looking at a screen, reading, or writing), a person should look at something in the distance (20 feet or more away) for 20 seconds.

In today’s world, almost everyone has more or less stress. Excessive stress can disrupt many systems in our body. Let’s discuss some stress relieving methods, try out these methods to relieve your stress and improve eyesight.

  • Use third-person self-talk as a relatively effortless form of self-control in a stressful situation.
  • Choose to believe the stress is good for you in order to get your body and mind prepared. Then, you can deal with the stress more effectively without emotional triggers.
  • Use techniques to counter modern-day, low-level chronic stress: meditation, deep abdominal breathing, repetitive prayer, focusing on a soothing word (such as peace or calm), and visualization of tranquil scenes (such as a beach or green mountain).
  • Engage in physical exercises and other activities such as yoga, qi gong, tai chi and tapping.
  • Surround yourself with positive peer groups.
  • Reach out to others as the right social support enhances life experience.
  • Be aware that you are prone to having automatic negative thoughts. When feeling fear and doubts, replace them with questions like, “What if it all works out well?”
  • Reduce time spent on screens. Make time for idling, time for hobbies, or time in nature.
  • Get enough sleep.

06. Go Outside

Nowadays, most people, especially young children, spend most of the day at home or in their room. Do not keep the light in your place too dark or too bright.
